Readings 9th Dec 2015

Personal Greetings (Romans 16:1-2New International Version (NIV))

16 I commend to you our sister Phoebe, a deacon[a][b] of the church in Cenchreae. I ask you to receive her in the Lord in a way worthy of his people and to give her any help she may need from you, for she has been the benefactor of many people, including me

Then Elihu said: (Job 34:1-2)

“Hear my words, you wise men;
    listen to me, you men of learning

15 “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!”( Mark 1:15New International Version (NIV))

14 This is why it is said: (Ephesians 5:14New International Version (NIV))

“Wake up, sleeper,
    rise from the dead,
    and Christ will shine on you.”

14 Then the Lord said to me, “The prophets are prophesying lies in my name. I have not sent them or appointed them or spoken to them. They are prophesying to you false visions, divinations, idolatries[a] and the delusions of their own minds.( Jeremiah 14:14New International Version (NIV))

17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”( Matthew 28:17-20New International Version (NIV))

20 In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.[a] 21 But the hand of him who is going to betray me is with mine on the table. 22 The Son of Man will go as it has been decreed. But woe to that man who betrays him!” (Luke 22:20-22New International Version (NIV))

The Armor of God(Ephesians 6:10-20New International Version (NIV))

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. 19 Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.

11 The Lord will guide you always;
    he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land
    and will strengthen your frame.
You will be like a well-watered garden,
    like a spring whose waters never fail
.( Isaiah 58:11New International Version (NIV)

14 Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you—guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us.( 2 Timothy 1:14New International Version (NIV))

16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.( Hebrews 4:16New International Version (NIV))

But since you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in the love we have kindled in you[a]—see that you also excel in this grace of giving(2 Corinthians 8:7New International Version (NIV))

13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit (Romans 15:13New International Version (NIV))

13 May he strengthen your hearts so that you will be blameless and holy in the presence of our God and Father when our Lord Jesus comes with all his holy ones.( 1 Thessalonians 3:13)

18 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.( 2 Thessalonians 3:18New International Version (NIV))
